About Daniel Kambale Nzughundi: Headmaster (DR Congo)

Daniel was born and raised in a Christian family. In secondary school, Daniel decided he wanted to become a math or physics teacher. He went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Community Development and a Graduate degree in Physics Education. After completing his post-secondary education in 1985, Daniel was hired by the Majengo Institute: a Christian high school that was launched in 1974 by the Baptist Churches in Central Africa (CBCA) denomination.

After his first year as a teacher, Daniel discovered that without a deep commitment to Christian values, he would be unable to fulfill his role of inspiring change in young people. This conviction led Daniel to take his personal commitment to serve the Lord more seriously and to this day, Daniel has remained involved in the church. He has been a deacon, a church elder, and he currently serves as a development worker at the church.

Daniel also continued to progress at the Majengo Institute. He was eventually hired as the Head Teacher and in 1995 he was promoted to Headmaster, a position he has held for the last 25 years. Under Daniel's leadership, Majengo currently teaches 1389 students and employs 52 staff members.

The Majengo Institute is recognized for its remarkable academic results and alumni have continued their education in some of the top universities in the world (e.g. Harvard, the US Military Academy). In addition to its academic reputation, Majengo is also known for promoting social and economic development in its community through the initiation of saving and credit cooperative societies (SACCOS). Daniel leads small SACCOS organizations in the fight against poverty in several parishes throughout Goma, his home town.

Daniel has desired to further his education since 1994 when he first earned significant leadership responsibilities. The First Congo War broke out in 1996, making it impossible for Daniel to pursue this dream. However, Daniel remained committed to Majengo Institute in the midst of the world's deadliest conflict since World War II. Unrest has plagued the region even after the conclusion of the First and Second Congo Wars, but Daniel is just as passionate about growing as a leader so he can develop a new generation of godly leaders.

Daniel is excited about participating in ALI so he can increase his leadership capacity. Specifically, he wants to learn how he can better promote Christian values and help his students develop the core skills that will lead to transformed lives. He also wants to improve the teacher training process at Majengo and he is excited about sharing his new knowledge in his school and church communities.

Thanks to donations made by generous members of the Kurumbuka community, Daniel has no remaining scholarship needs! Any additional funds given through this page will be allocated towards future ALI scholarships.
