About Desire Sengoga: Engineer (Rwanda)
While in Haiti, he was overwhelmed by the needs around him and he became interested in community-based approaches to development. He began to explore projects related to water, sanitation, health, and hygiene—four of the primary challenges burdening impoverished communities.
While researching community development, he came across the asset-based community development (ABCD) approach. He was so intrigued by ABCD that he decided to pursue more education and commit to community-focused engineering. After returning to Rwanda he received a Chevening Scholarship and travelled to the UK to study Water, Sanitation, and Health (WASH) Engineering.
Desire recently returned to Rwanda and is currently serving with his church while he looks for other job opportunities.
In the coming years, Desire wants to become one of the best WASH engineers in Kigali and start his own organization. This organization will develop community-driven projects and train others to take initiative in transforming their communities.
Desire is excited to learn more about ABCD and servant leadership at ALI. He also looks forward to joining a community of peers who share a passion to serve. Finally, he is excited to be mentored and learn from older leaders.
Thanks to donations made by generous members of the Kurumbuka community, Desire has no remaining scholarship needs! Any additional funds given through this page will be allocated towards future ALI scholarships.
