About Evangelique Makampunga: Head Teacher (Rwanda)

Evangelique Makampunga is the Head Teacher of G.S. Gikumba in Kigali, Rwanda. After receiving an A1 Certificate in Psychopedagogy in 1996, Evangelique began a 12-year journey as a teacher at three different institutions. While teaching at FAWE girls' school in Kigali, a school in Rwanda's Northern Province, and a college in Southern Province, Evangelique also oversaw discipline and served as a teacher representative.

After performing well as a Deputy Manager, Evangelique started serving as a school administrator in 2009. For the next 11 years, Evangelique was the Deputy of Studies at three more schools. During this time she returned to university to complete her bachelor's degree in Psychopedagogy.

Earlier this year, Evangelique began her current role as the Head teacher of G.S. Gikumbaan exciting new opportunity that aligns with her desire to see the children of Rwanda develop skills that will enable them to solve their own problems in a way that reduces unemployment and promotes national development. As a basic education institution, G.S. Gikumba mainly serves underprivileged students who struggle to obtain the necessary learning materials. G.S. Gikumba is also severely overcrowded and while Evangelique is currently leading the construction of a new secondary school section, the new classrooms won't meet the present need.

Despite the challenges of her position, Evangelique is excited about the future of G.S. Gikumba. As a passionate Christ-follower, Evangelique believes that by sharing the love of Jesus Christ in her work, her staff and students can experience transformation and realize their full potential.

Outside of work, Evangelique is heavily involved in Mother's Union: a church group which improves the well being of families by promoting prayer and spiritual growth in families, and offering  training sessions on family life and marriage. She also serves in Sunday school.

Evangelique is excited to participate in ALI because she believes it will equip her with the skills she needs to be a transformational leader who leads like Jesus. She wants to be able to look at her challenges with a new perspective so she can bring clarity to difficult situations and set effective goals.

Thank you for your generous support of Evangelique!
