About Obed Kwizera: Youth Ministry Worker (Rwanda)
Obed Kwizera was born into a Christian home, but as a boy he did not have a relationship with Jesus. Obed's family survived the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi but life was difficult afterwards as they navigated the trauma. In high school, Obed tried to find comfort in alcohol and drugs but it only left him feeling more empty. Obed accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in university and he began to experience peace, joy, and hope for the future.
During his time at university Obed was heavily involved with the school's Groupe Biblique Universitaire (GBU) group and he eventually served as its president. Obed also engaged with a local church and he started to feel burdened for lost young people. God was calling Obed to work in full-time ministry and after working with GBU for one year after graduation he started working with the Youth Department at the Anglican Church of Rwanda (Remera Parish).
Today, Obed works with over 300 young people. His vision is to see young people be agents of God's transformation in their churches and communities throughout the country. He works to help young people live a holistically healthy life: spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Obed is consistently looking for opportunities to grow as a leader and he was inspired by Kurumbuka's vision. He applied because he believes ALI will impact him to impact others by equipping him with new skills and encouraging him to encourage others as a servant leader. Obed is also excited to meet the other leaders in his cohort.
Thank you for generously investing in Obed's leadership journey!
