About Remy Paul Ayinshuti: Activist and NGO Employee (Rwanda)

Remy's life changed forever when he encountered Jesus Christ. Born into a poor, uneducated family, Remy was abandoned at birth. After being adopted by another family, Remy endured harsh discrimination because of his albinism. As a young boy, he was forced to live in the animal shed and his teachers would kick him out of classes. Remy could not imagine a future where he was no longer viewed as a curse, and his depression led him to attempt suicide multiple times. After his last attempt, a classmate introduced him to Jesus and Remy felt genuine love for the first time.

As Remy grew in his relationship with Christ, he realized that God had a plan for his life. Despite facing many obstacles, Remy excelled academically and was regularly first in his class. He received a scholarship to attend university and he decided to study clinical psychology. Remy's personal story inspired him to study psychology, but he was also motivated by the story of Rwanda. Remy lost his father and siblings in the 1994 genocide and he knew so many Rwandans needed help to heal from the trauma. Remy graduated with a first-class degree and immediately began working at a clinic providing counselling and psychotherapy

Remy's passion to serve led him to co-found an NGO in 2017 that is committed to supporting and advocating for people with albinism. Today, the organization operates in 7 districts in Rwanda. Not only has the organization provided material support such as skin lotion and school supplies, but it has also helped facilitate mindset shifts in communities. His vision is to provide opportunities for physical, academic, and spiritual growth to the rejected and vulnerable in society. Remy says, "If I was not given an opportunity, I would not be where I am today. I dream of a world that shares opportunities.”

His desire to share opportunities eventually led Remy to join the team at Compassion International as a Sponsor and Donor Support Associate. Remy was a beneficiary of support from Compassion International and he is excited to now help facilitate support for other Rwandan children. Outside of work Remy serves in his church's youth program.

Remy applied to the Abundant Leadership Institute (ALI) because he recognizes the importance of leadership in developing strong communities. He believes ALI will help him reinforce his vision and equip him with the skills necessary to mobilize others. Remy is also excited to connect with other social entrepreneurs committed to growing as servant leaders.

Thank you for generously investing in Remy's leadership journey!
