About Sosthene Kubwimana: Head Teacher (Rwanda)
For the next six years, Sosthene taught at two institutions and led their athletic programs while completing his bachelor's degree in education and economics. Despite juggling numerous responsibilities, Sosthene consistently performed at a high-level and demonstrated significant leadership potential.
In 2018, the school district was searching for a new head teacher to lead a school with crumbling buildings and a legacy of poor leadership. Sosthene was chosen for this position and he was able to change the culture and improve the infrastructure in a short period of time.
After one year, Sosthene had empowered a successor and his reputation as a leader capable of promoting positive change led the school district to move him to a larger school with similar leadership challenges. As a former student at his new school, Sosthene had to navigate the challenge of leading teachers who had taught him. However, he became an inspiration for staff and the community by reminding them that he was a product of that institution.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began effecting Rwanda's education system, Sosthene was transferred to his current position: Head Teacher at G.S. Kagarama. G.S. Kagarama is a new school and Sosthene is actively working to create a clear vision for the institution while navigating the challenges associated with a global pandemic.
In addition to overseeing a new school, Sosthene is a key leader in Ambassadors Football Rwanda: a Christian ministry which exists to disciple children through football games and tournaments.
Sosthene believes that good leadership is not theoretical, it is practical and focuses on helping people. His goal is to lead in a way that is humble and promotes mental, spiritual, and physical transformation throughout his community. After experiencing transformation, Sosthene wants to see his community engage in the improvement of education and society at large.
Sosthene was motivated to apply to ALI because he wants to lead like Jesus and he recognizes the important link between leadership and Christianity. He is committed to growing as a leader and he wants to gain more skills that will equip him to to serve his community more effectively.
Thank you for generously investing in Sosthene's leadership journey!
