About Yusuf Bahati: NGO Project Manager and Partnership Facilitator (Rwanda)

After being raised as a Muslim, Yusuf became a Christian when he was 16 years old. Yusuf says that accepting Jesus transformed him into a new person—he began actively participating in church and eventually led the Scripture Union group at his university.

After graduating from Rwanda's School of Finance and Banking with a degree in Human Resources, Yusuf decided that he wanted to work for a Christian organization so he could grow professionally and spiritually while serving marginalized communities and making an impact. In 2008, Yusuf was hired by Compassion International: an international NGO that exists to release children from poverty in Jesus' name.

Yusuf first served with Compassion as a Leadership Development Specialist. After receiving leadership training from Compassion in India, Yusuf oversaw the organization's leadership development program in Rwanda. The program eventually ended and Yusuf transitioned to a Partner Training role before beginning to work as a Partnership Facilitator in 2014. In the same year, Yusuf completed his MBA in Project Management from Mount Kenya University. In 2021, Yusuf was promoted to a Senior Partnership Facilitator.

Compassion delivers its program and services through local churches. As a Partnership Facilitator, Yusuf engages directly with 13 churches and oversees a team of 65 staff, pastors, and volunteers who provide resources and training for children in their communities. By journeying with children for up to 19 years (from ages 3-21), Compassion and their partner churches provide essential resources and help address social and emotional challenges.

Even though Compassion is not able to meet the needs of all marginalized children in Rwanda, Yusuf is encouraged and motivated by seeing children who have received support from Compassion now making a difference in society. His experience witnessing change in the lives of youth has informed his personal vision: seeing communities transformed by increasing education and training so poverty is eliminated throughout Rwanda.

In addition to his work with Compassion, Yusuf pursues his vision by serving as the Parent's Representative Committee Chairman for the Sunday School at his church and leading a cell group. Yusuf was also ordained as a Youth Pastor in 2006 and has been consistently involved with youth programs.

Even though Yusuf already has extensive leadership experience, he recognizes the need to keep improving as a leader in order to actualize his ambitious vision. He wants to be able to fully unleash the potential of his team and inspire them in the work they are doing together. He also believes getting leadership training from a new organization will broaden his perspective and equip him to empower more leaders in Compassion and in his community.

Thank you for generously investing in Yusuf's leadership journey!
