Rose thank you for sharing your story and being an example of a true leader. I can’t imagine all you have overcome to get where you are today. You persistence and commitment to advocate for the most vulnerable in your country is challenging me to continue to be a voice in my country of Canada. I am excited to see how your story unfolds in the coming years. God bless!

About Rose Mutesi: NGO Founder (Rwanda)

Rose was raised in a nomadic community that practices a traditional way of life. Girls and women had limited rights in her community and forced marriages and child brides were common. From an early age, Rose desired to establish gender equality in her country, so she decided to study Social Work at university. This field of work was uncommon in Rwanda after Rose graduated, so she started her own organization: the Young Women Mentor's Network (YWMN).

YWMN works in four areas: education, health, human rights, and economic empowerment. Their activities include an extensive mentorship network, career guidance for women in university, education on reproductive rights and health, syndicates focused on economic empowerment, and kids programs.

Under her leadership, YWMN has grown—it now has 25 employees and works in every district of the country. Rose is especially passionate about serving the most marginalized women in Rwanda: sex workers and single mothers that have been rejected by their families. For example, 40 single moms that were sleeping on the street received shelter and economic empowerment from YWMN and they have now been reunited with their families. (Today, they are the breadwinners in their families!)

By joining ALI, Rose hopes to grow as a Christian leader and ensure YWMN is sustainable by effectively sharing her vision and raising up other leaders.

Thanks to donations made by generous members of the Kurumbuka community, Rose has no remaining scholarship needs! Any additional funds given through this page will be allocated towards future ALI scholarships.
