About Devotha Mukamwezi: Non-Profit Partnerships Facilitator (Rwanda)
Devotha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Foundations of Education, and a Master’s degree in Gender and Development, which have equipped her with strong teaching skills, as well as a passion for girls and women. She has also completed coursework in counseling as well as a Christian leadership program. Throughout her career pursuits, Devotha has become aware of a gap that exists within the education and professional development programs in her society. She noticed how courses are only focused on the cognitive side of things (i.e., learning the facts), and how there is essentially no emphasis on developing good morals, building strong character, or growing spiritually. She fears that as people achieve their academic careers and goals, they will find fulfillment in the wrong things, and that as a result, they won’t hunger and thirst for God. Her hope is to live within a community of professionals who love God and who have Him at the center of what they do, and she prays that she will be able to influence Godly character development within her workplaces.
Now, Devotha lives in Kigali with her husband and 3 children, and she holds many professional positions. For the past 16 years, she has worked for a Christian organization called Compassion International. Compassion is a child development organization that partners with churches around the country to support and disciple children. Within this organization, Devotha has held various roles. However, she currently works as a Partnership Facilitator, coordinating between Compassion International Rwanda and the different supporting churches. She is also a member of the Spiritual Formation Committee for Compassion where she serves alongside 5 men, coordinating spiritual matters for their organization at the national level. Furthermore, Devotha serves as a co pastor at her church, where her husband is a pastor. Finally, she uses her skills in counseling in her YouTube channel, where she is able to make videos about mental health and share them with as many girls and women as possible.
Within many areas of life, Devotha is certainly a leader. Her education and training up to this point have equipped her well, yet she continues to seek opportunities to learn and grow. This is why she will be attending the Abundant Leadership Institute. She looks forward to meeting the other people who will be attending the program, and learning from them. She believes that their different values and experiences will sharpen her as a leader. Devotha is also excited to use her knowledge of teaching to share all that she learns with her coworkers and the people that she leads in order to pursue the Godly transformation that she is passionate about.
