About Doreen Bakyenga: Clinical Services Director (Uganda)

Doreen Bakyenga is an inspiring doctor and entrepreneur who has a vision to ensure that “people can have the liberty of enjoying a good service and still heal”. She has always had a passion for medicine and has worked for affordable healthcare in her community.

Doreen was born and raised in Uganda. She is married and has four children. From when she was 6 years old she knew that she wanted to go into medicine and the people around her encouraged her to do so. Her own father is a vet and he served as a role model because he also ran his own business. In high school, she specialized in sciences and went on to qualify to study medicine at Makerere University; one of the leading universities in East Africa. For Doreen, education was always interesting and she was never confused about what she wanted to do with her future. Such clarity allowed her to start her own path in her career at her own company.

Cambridge Health Inc. is the name of the company she runs in Uganda as the director of clinical services. Her role is to be responsible for the supervision, growth, continuous education, licensure, and also for the good clinical practice of her staff. She leads a team of 70 staff going up to 80 and they are all under 35 years of age. Their vision is to be the home of innovative, timely and world-class health care in the whole of Africa. They also run initiatives that give health care and testing to communities that otherwise could not afford it. At the moment, they are limited to Uganda but they see their growth and potential in being able to cross borders. Their medical centers stand out because they provide premium services at fair prices and this should be universal in Africa.

ALI is the perfect opportunity for Doreen as it fits into the goals she has for herself and her business. She was drawn to ALI because it is a Christian organization and her company also runs on Christian values. She hopes that through the program, she could grow her network because other people can help make the journey easier as they may have faced similar challenges. Funding is also important for her especially in their goal to take their business to the rest of Africa. Doreen has also desired to start a charity through her business focused on the sustainable development of education and hopes to jump over steps such as registration. Moreover, she wants to improve her leadership skills like communication. Doreen has big dreams for her company and healthcare being so important in African development, ALI would help push these goals forward.

Thank you for generously investing in Doreen’s leadership journey!
