About Esther Maburuki: Non-Profit Project Manager (Burundi)

Esther serves as a Project Manager for Wezesha Ministry, providing microloans for women, especially single mothers and women. Esther hopes that “God will give me the grace to build a home for single moms and widows where they can be as they get their lives together”. She has worked with women who are homeless, have been neglected by their husbands, and have had to support their children alone. Such work has given her a love for these women and she wants to pour out her heart to them and accomplish what God wants her to do in this season of her life.

As a refugee who fled from Rwanda to Kenya during the genocide of 1994, life was not easy for her. Furthermore, she grew up as a Christian however her journey of faith had many ups and downs. She recommitted her life to Christ in university and was grateful for that because she gained maturity that showed her what direction to take her life. She is now married and blessed with three children.

After university, she found herself working in communications. God had another plan for her, as she received an opportunity to work in a church ministry. The project she got and is still working on supports local business women with loans, which empowers them to lift themselves out of poverty. She recalls the story of one of the women she began working with in 2015. In Kenya, police are known to chase women who sell products on the street, and this was the case for the lady she supported. Her ministry reached out to the lady and provided her with the capital she needed, and she now has a big stand in one of the largest markets in the city.

Her ministry supports 1800 women, and as the project manager, she works to train the women in areas such as entrepreneurship. Working in the church has impacted her because she views her job as a way to serve and grow closer to God. It is easier to support the women in the ministry from this standpoint.

She was connected with ALI when a member of Kurumbuka visited their church and heard stories from their projects and the lives that have been transformed. ALI will directly impact the work that she is doing because of the challenges she encounters, such as that of gender equality, where people ask her how she manages work and her home. She believes that she will find useful solutions for herself and for her team. The support she receives will help her ministry continue to support the women and also help Esther reach her goal of building a home for them.
