About Grace Uwizeye: NGO Founder and Executive Director

Grace Uwizeye deeply understands the situation of the marginalized women and youth she serves in Rwanda.

Grace was born to a teenage mother, raised by her grandmother, and she was only nine years old when all financial support for her and her seven siblings was lost. Her grandmother was materially poor but spiritually rich, and she prioritized Christian faith and education for young Grace. Today, Grace, who loves singing in the church choir, has a new song in her heart as she strives to support the marginalized in Rwanda through the organization she started: Nyampinga Ushoboye.

Nyampinga Ushoboye means “Miss Capable” in the Rwandan language. It reflects Grace’s heart for young women in Rwanda at risk of teenage pregnancy and HIV. Her organization reaches out to nearly 10,000 youth in Rwanda and works against teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS. Her dream is to see developed and dignified communities across Rwanda free from HIV and teenage pregnancies. At 27 years old, Grace is just getting started.

Grace joined the Abundant Leadership Institute because she believes being part of a community of leaders will help her better serve the marginalized. God has redeemed her story and given her an amazing platform to reach youth with a similar story to her own. ALI can help her with tools and strategies she can use in Nyampinga to make a bigger impact.

Grace began ALI last year, however, she had to defer taking the program as she and her husband welcomed their baby into this world! We are excited to have Grace re-join ALI as part of Cohort 10. At Kurumbuka, we are privileged to come alongside Grace as she empowers young women across Rwanda.
