About Joel Byiringiro: User Experience Designer & Content Lead (Rwanda)
He defines himself through his faith, family, and career. Joel was born in Rwanda but he moved to Kenya which allowed him to learn four languages. This skill equipped him in his career when he joined an advertising agency after university. Sadly, he felt that the place was not fitting for him as it did not allow him to pursue Christ while working. A skillset he carried was that he is very social and could coordinate people. Joel took the risk of quitting his job three months before his wedding. In doing this, he felt more in sync with the Holy Spirit and that led him to be more involved with church ministry.
God led Joel to volunteer with an organization Christian organization called the PEACE plan as well as Saddleback church where he helped organize for missionaries who would visit Rwanda. He felt more of a sense of community working in ministry and he decided to involve himself with the youth and worship teams in his home church. Along with working in different ministries, Joel worked with an orphanage in Rwanda that tried to connect children out of the orphanage and into Christian families.
He now works with a tech agency called Irembo as their content strategy and coordinator for three languages. In regards to leadership, he gets upset when incompetent leaders are put in power and the people they lead have to suffer because of that. This has led him to desire to learn more about organizational leadership. As a leader, he wants to do things that will help people, for example, inspiring a board to make better decisions or working with systems to make life easier for them. He believes that this is his calling and he is open to learning more.
ALI will help Joel achieve his goals as he wants his business ideas to flourish. He has also seen how the program has positively impacted people he knows. He wants to open up a small firm to do what he has done for the companies he has worked with. These skills include leadership, justice, lifting people up and they will help him pursue his other passions like leading worship. Joel states that “when delays cause you to get closer to God you are not losing you are winning”. Such a perspective is so beneficial and allowed him to continue to push through even with all the setbacks he encountered. He wants to take what he learns to continue to serve God and those around him.
