About Victor Manyim: Foundation Director (Cameroon)
Victor is married and has 6 children. He is grateful for his own upbringing because growing up his family was stable as his father was a worker in labor with a missionary school and his mom would farm at home. They lived in a rural yet modern environment and he developed a personal relationship with Christ as he grew older. The official languages in the country were French and English, but this is among 250 languages in total. Most people in the country interchange between the two.
Victor fits in two leadership spheres at the moment. He has a part time role with B2 the World as the representative in Cameroon and Central Africa. The founder is a longtime friend who he used to work with and they are working on starting a school. He has also worked for Campus Crusade For Christ (Cru) since 1997. He serves in the campus ministry that reaches out to students, serves in Athletes in Action, and is the representative of the International Leadership Foundation that are all a part of the organization.
Interestingly, Victor did his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He was a student with Cru and did a lot of evangelism for them at the same time. He heard a voice that ministry would be his full time occupation and he prayed and told God he didn’t go to engineering school to be a missionary, but that if it is his will he will accept it. This is how he followed God’s calling and began his work as a missionary. He went on to do his doctorate specialization in leadership development. In himself, he sees the challenge of focusing and relying on God rather than his own strength. As a trained engineer, he is used to logic and is now working to shift his dependence more on God. Moreover, with the youth he sees the challenge of culture being attacked. People are trying to impose their own views on the youth because they believe it is the right way. He wants to reinvent the world and teach kids how to respond when faced with different views because it has become too normalized. Furthermore, the branding of youth in Africa needs to be worked on and it is a challenge to change how they perceive themselves.
Victor is excited to be a part of ALI because he loves learning and wants to be inspired by others. He has a passion for transformation and youth development and says “I love seeing young people grow into adults with the values of Jesus at the center”. When he first started working for Campus Crusade he would focus on changing people’s hearts but now he wants to be able to give them skills so that they can also transform the community. Through his work, he sees that reaching out to youth for short term activities is not as effective. That is why he wants to have a school in the future that prepares the next generation of leaders, giving them the intellectual knowledge as well as developing their habits and attitudes. Additionally, equipping them with practical entrepreneurship skills, an example being greenhouse farming that they have started in Cameroon. People need to be empowered and they should move away from a mindset of dependence. ALI will equip Victor to help the youth become better leaders for Africa’s future.
