About Ruth Ndoricimpa: YWAM Burundi Program Director (Burundi)
Even before her birth, Ruth faced some level of rejection. The man who made her mom pregnant chased her mom away and although her mom went back to her family, they were not very accepting. Her mom got saved when she was 4 years old and began taking her to church. Although Ruth grew up in the church, she still carried pain as she did not know who her dad was and she did not feel as though she belonged even when her mom remarried. This confusion was intensified when she found out that her grandparents registered themselves as her parents because her dad could not register her. Ruth could have chosen to hold on to that hurt and rejection but she turned her life around.
Ruth started a degree in administration and accounting management in University but paused that when she joined YWAM and got married and has four kids today. From her own life, she saw that God had protected her even when her mother had nothing. This led her to want to care for kids who do not have an identity such as orphans and those without homes or families.
She directs all the programs YWAM runs in Burundi. They run primary schools and are starting their grade 7 class this year for high school. Furthermore, they have a mercy ministry where they do compassion work outside the city that involves feeding programs for kids under five years old in order to prevent malnutrition. The kids come on the campus and they are given food from Monday to Friday and for some that is the only food they will eat in a day. She recalls the story of a young girl who brought a malnutritioned baby to them. The baby had to be taken to hospital and be watched over by her team even after because her whole family was also suffering from malnutrition. Today, the baby is standing and walking and is a joy to those around her. It shows how a little faith and care can go a long way.
Some of the other things Ruth's ministry does involves building homes for those who do not have and providing a sewing school to teach women in the community skills so that they can start businesses and support their families. They also do evangelism and they have a mission to tell everyone about Jesus through church planting and equipping pastors to pioneer churches. It is evident the way God has chosen Ruth to accomplish good in other people’s lives and she has not shied away from his call. She wants to go to ALI to empower herself because she feels like she needs more knowledge and wants to be well-equipped in her leadership. Ruth wants her impact to be lasting so that even when she is not there, her team will continue to do good work. She desires to be a leader that will keep impacting the community in a way that even when she is not there, the people will continue to do good work. Her vision for the future is to impact the whole country and not just the community she is working in now. Ruth also has a heart for women and wants to see them stand up for themselves in their various giftings. ALI will allow her to reach out to many more children who were just like her.
